Important Message from HCL:

Dear Neighbors and residents of Hodgson Community,

You are invited to an important community meeting:

The Hodgson Annual General Meeting and Town Hall

DATE: September 10, 2024 @ 7pm

Location:  Whitemud Creek Community Centre, 951 Ogilvie Blvd NW, Edmonton

Our Community League will have to permanently close if we don’t recruit some board members at our September AGM. Community Leagues are 100% volunteer powered and locally run organizations. We have been operating with almost no volunteers for a number of years and it is time to decide if we need to dissolve the society.

NOTICE OF PENDING SPECIAL RESOLUTION

BE IT RESOLVED that the Hodgson Community League surrender its certificate of incorporation and take all actions required to dissolve the society.

What would Losing Our League Mean?

  • The League society would dissolve meaning no access to current revenue which includes:

    • Casino funds for local activities and amenities. Casinos bring in around $80,000 every two years.

    • City of Edmonton Neighborhood Grants: more than $10,000/year that supports programs and recreation directly in the neighborhood.

    • These funds support LOCAL programs, events, and activities

  • No snow bank rink

  • No yearly ski nights

  • No party in the park

  • No local organization to convene resident interests

  • Lose access to city-allocated parkland and the ability to build local amenities: community garden, tennis/basketball,  gazebo, hall (these are all examples of what Leagues build on licensed land)

  • Current Assets would be transferred to the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues to hold in trust

What Do Community Leagues Do?

  • Bring neighbors together, build and maintain community spaces like rinks, halls, and community gardens, advocate for the neighborhood.

  • Run programs and events: seniors drop-ins, walking groups, parent and tots groups, community BBQs, etc. Leagues have grant money from the City of Edmonton to support local programs that benefit the neighborhood. Make the community you want to live in!

  • Community Leagues serve all residents and are not based on homeownership. Unlike HOAs they are directly supported by the City and the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues and have access to parkland to build local amenities
